Many common WiFi connectivity issues can be solved by restarting your Xfinity Gateway, our all-in-one WiFi modem and router. Before restarting your gateway, it’s recommended to first try our full network test, which will let you know if a restart is the best tool to fix the internet issue you may be experiencing. If you’re on a mobile device, you can run a full network test yourself using the Xfinity app.
If you’re on a computer or tablet, grab your smartphone and scan the QR code below:
You can also troubleshoot using the Xfinity Assistant or accessing xfinity.com from your computer. This provides the same troubleshooting a customer service agent does but without the wait on the phone. If our system detects a problem that isn’t fixable using our online troubleshooting experience, we’ll offer the option to schedule an appointment with a technician.
Xfinity customers who rely on non-verbal communication have access to dedicated customer support services through our ASL Support Center.
What happens during a restart
The restart process takes about 12 minutes. During the restart, you won't be able to use your home network.
If you have Xfinity Voice, you won’t be able to make or receive calls, including emergency 911 calls, from your home phone until your gateway is back online. If you have Xfinity Home, you won’t have access to cameras and any connected home automation devices. Security sensors aren’t affected.
