Make the most out of the Xfinity Stream app on your Apple phone or tablet. In this article, learn how to:
- Install the Xfinity Stream app.

Install the Xfinity Stream app
- Open the App Store.
- Tap the Search icon.
- Enter "XFINITY Stream" in the search bar.
- Scroll through the search results to find the Xfinity Stream app.
- Tap the app icon to open the app's page.
- Tap Install App from the app page to download and install to your device.
Watch, download, or modify a recording
As part of X1 or other Xfinity TV packages with cloud-based DVR service, you can watch, download, modify, or manage your DVR recordings on Apple phones or tablets using the Xfinity Stream app.
Note: Only Xfinity customers can log in and use the Xfinity Stream app for mobile devices. The DVR functionality (remote scheduling, streaming, and downloading of recordings) is only available to Xfinity TV customers who have cloud DVR.
Watch a DVR recording
- To watch recorded programs saved to your DVR, go to the main menu and tap the My Library tab.
- This will only be visible if you're a cloud DVR customer.
- Under the My Library menu, you can select:
- Just Recorded to see programs recorded in the last seven days, as well as your recently watched but not yet completed programs.
- A red progress bar indicates a recording is in progress, while a white bar indicates the viewing progress.
- Recordings to see all recordings available for playback and download.
- Scheduled to see scheduled recordings.
- My List to see programs you marked as favorites.
- Purchases to see programs you have purchased.
- Downloads to see programs saved to the device.
- Just Recorded to see programs recorded in the last seven days, as well as your recently watched but not yet completed programs.
- Choose the episode you want to view and tap Watch.
- If the recording has already been watched, you'll have the option to choose Resume or Restart.
- To play back a DVR recording, your mobile device will need to have a strong internet connection.
- Note: Smart Resume lets you easily resume watching your program after fast-forwarding through commercial breaks in DVR recordings. It's available on select top shows recorded on the Xfinity Stream portal.

Download a DVR program
- To download a recording directly to your mobile device, find the recording and tap Download.
- Once the download is complete, your program will show as downloaded on the Downloads tab.
- You can see the completed recordings either in a list or as a gallery using the toggles in the upper-right corner.
- You can also filter by Most Recent or Alphabetical.
- Tap Watch to start playback of the recording.
- If the recording has already been watched, you'll have the option to choose Resume or Restart.
- To remove the program from your device, tap Return.
- Canceling or deleting a download starts the check-in process to let others in your household stream or download the content.
- Tap Yes to confirm when the Return Downloaded Recording message appears, asking: "Are you sure? This recording will be removed from this device & returned to your DVR to watch on TV & other devices."
Modify your DVR series recording
- To browse completed or scheduled recordings for each day, go to the Scheduled menu.
- Tap a program or recording and then tap Record Options.
- Note: Recordings can also be modified or canceled from the On-Screen Guide.
- To modify, tap Modify Recording.
- To modify a series recording, tap Series Info and select the icon with the three dots in the top right.
- Then, tap Modify Series Recording.
Cancel a scheduled recording
- Under the My Library menu, select Scheduled to browse scheduled recordings for each day.
- Note: Recordings can also be modified or canceled from the On-Screen Guide in the app.
- Select the recording you want and tap Record Options.
- To cancel a recording entirely, tap Cancel Recording.
- If the program is a one-time recording and not part of a series, confirm the cancellation by tapping Yes when the Cancel Recording message appears.
- If you choose a program that is part of a series recording, you'll see the option to cancel just a single recording or to cancel the entire series.
- Choose Just This Episode to cancel the single episode recording, or choose Series Recording to cancel the entire series.
Watch live TV
Learn how to watch live TV on your Apple phone or tablet using the Xfinity Stream app.
Note: Live TV streaming over the internet outside of your in-home Xfinity network will count against your Xfinity Internet data usage. Data rates will apply while connected to any mobile network (3G/4G/5G/LTE).
- Open the Xfinity Stream app while connected to any WiFi or cellular connection.
- Select Live TV from the bottom menu bar.
- Select the network logo on the left to begin streaming that channel. You can also select the program airing now.
- Select Watch to start watching immediately.
- Select Record to record the episode or series.
- Select Series Info to see more details about the current program.
- If you are looking at a program page that resides on a select network that is only available to stream in home, you will be presented with a message that states it is available to watch in home only.
Watch or download Xfinity On Demand
Learn how to watch and download Xfinity On Demand programming through the Xfinity Stream app on an Apple phone or tablet.
Xfinity On Demand movies
- To watch and download Xfinity On Demand movies, tap Movies under Browse in the navigation menu.
- Select a category to view available movies.
- Select a movie title to view the program’s overlay.
- Select Play to begin the movie, or tap More to display the full movie description and details about the program, including:
- Movie description.
- Cast.
- Year released.
- Rotten Tomatoes scores.
- Upcoming times.
- 'People Also Watched' selections.
- If the Play button is grayed out, the program is only available while connected to your in-home Xfinity network.
- If the movie is available for download, tap Download (next to Play).
- Once downloaded, the movie will appear under Downloads in My Library for offline viewing.
- From the More screen, view Upcoming Times to see future airings of the movie.
- X1 Cloud DVR customers can set recordings for future airings of the movie.
- To view Xfinity On Demand TV shows, tap TV under On Demand in the main navigation menu.
Xfinity On Demand TV shows
- To view Xfinity On Demand TV shows, tap the TV tab under Browse in the navigation menu.
- Select a category or genre, network, or search by name.
- Select a TV show to display the program’s overlay.
- Select Play to start the TV show.
- If the show has been watched before, the most recent episode will appear; if the TV show has not been watched, Season 1 Episode 1 will default.
- Or, select More Episodes to see Series Info, Episodes and Upcoming.
- If the Play button is grayed out, the program is only available while connected to your in-home Xfinity network.
- Select Record series to set a series recording.
- Watch Now shows all available seasons and episodes to watch on demand and also viewable recordings.
- Select the three dots next to the episode number and title to see episode details and watch options.
- Select an individual episode to view Play and/or Download options.
- Select Download if the TV show is available for download.
- Once downloaded, the TV show will be available on the Downloads tab for offline viewing.
- Currently, only select Xfinity On Demand TV shows are available for download.
- Alternatively, the Available for Download filter from earlier screens can find more shows to be downloaded for offline viewing.
- If the show has been watched before, the most recent episode will appear; if the TV show has not been watched, Season 1 Episode 1 will default.
- Select Upcoming to see future airings of the TV show.
- X1 Cloud DVR customers can schedule future recordings of the show by selecting the episode and selecting Record.
- Select Related to view similar TV shows or movies.
Adjust the appearance of CC
On Apple devices, you can change the appearance of CC including font size, style, color, background color, and opacity.
- Tap the Settings icon from your Apple device.
- Note: Don't tap the Settings icon located within the Xfinity Stream app.
- Tap Accessibility.
- Scroll down to the Hearing section and tap Subtitles & Captioning.
- Tap Style.
- Choose from the list of pre-defined styles or create your own by tapping Create New Style.
- Once you've created your style and selected it from the list of styles, when you return to the Xfinity Stream app to view a program, CC will match the style you created.
