xFi Advanced Gateways support the latest in WiFi technology, including WiFi 6, WiFi 6E, and WPA3, the latest generation in mainstream security for wireless networks. To take advantage of this advanced technology, it’s important to maintain the WiFi enabled devices in your home.
If you have an xFi Advanced Gateway (XB7 and higher), you may need to update Windows PC WiFi drivers in certain devices so they can connect to your in-home WiFi network. Updating WiFi drivers, firmware and app versions across all WiFi capable devices is recommended to ensure you’re getting the most out of your new Gateway.
Having older drivers installed could mean certain wireless-capable devices, such as laptops, may not be able to recognize the WiFi network being broadcast by a WiFi 6-capable gateway or router. This could prevent certain devices from connecting to your in-home WiFi network until the driver has been updated.
If other wireless-capable devices can connect successfully to your in-home WiFi network, it’s recommended that you check to see if the WiFi drivers in the device that cannot connect should be updated.
With the introduction of new technology and to ensure the best experience when using wireless-capable devices, it’s important to maintain devices by updating WiFi drivers, firmware and app versions when appropriate.
Updating a driver
First, make sure your gateway is online and can connect to other WiFi devices in your home. If your gateway looks like it’s not working, visit the Xfinity app for troubleshooting steps.
If your gateway works with other devices but not your Windows PC, you’ll need to update your WiFi driver.
Intel (or your PC manufacturer) can give you more details on how to identify your driver version number and complete the driver update. You can visit Intel’s website to see the list of impacted Intel Wireless Adapters, or see their step-by-step instructions on how to check your driver version number and perform the driver update.
Note: You may have to connect your PC directly to your gateway using an Ethernet cable to download and install the updated driver.
