On Tuesday, October 10, 2023, the Root Sports Northwest channel was moved from Xfinity’s Digital Starter, Extra, Popular TV, and Starter Latino TV packages to the Ultimate TV package.
We regularly evaluate our channel lineups and sometimes make changes to ensure we're offering a wide variety of content at the best value. As part of those regular reviews, we decided to move Root Sports Northwest.
The good news is that if you have a package which no longer includes a regional sports network (RSN) like Root Sports Northwest, you won’t see that network's portion of the fee on your bill.
Root Sports Northwest is an RSN serving the Pacific Northwest in Oregon and Washington, offering programming for the Seattle and Portland areas. It includes coverage of the following teams:
- Seattle Kraken, National Hockey League (NHL)
- Portland Trailblazers, National Basketball Association (NBA)
- Seattle Mariners, Major League Baseball (MLB)

FAQs
How do programming agreements work?
We pay networks, local TV station owners and others for the ability to deliver their programming to our customers. The fees vary based on factors such as the type of content (like RSNs such as Root Sports Northwest), the popularity of the network, and the demand for its content, among others.
For more information, see xfinity.com/howitworks.
What is the RSN Fee?
The RSN Fee is an itemized charge you'll see on your bill if you have a package which includes an RSN, like Root Sports Northwest.
This charge is not a government-mandated fee and will increase from time to time. It's based on our costs of providing the RSNs that we carry on our cable systems in each area, like Root Sports Northwest.
Learn more about the taxes, fees and other charges on your bill.
How are you informing customers of this change?
You'll receive an email and see a message on your monthly bill statement.
Are you adding any channels to replace Root Sports Northwest?
No. We’re not getting rid of Root Sports Northwest, we’re just including it in a different Xfinity TV package.
What happened to my scheduled DVR recordings?
If you’re not subscribed to the Ultimate TV package, your DVR won’t record any new or future programming on Root Sports Northwest, and you won't be able to watch the channel anymore.
You can still watch programming from Root Sports Northwest that you previously recorded.
Where can I continue watching similar programming?
We offer a range of alternative content that may offer similar viewing options. ESPN, Fox Sports 1, and Peacock may offer similar programming.
You can also use your Xfinity Voice Remote to find alternative viewing options. Just say “sports” to launch our Sports Destination on X1.
