Many factors may impact WiFi connectivity in the home, including equipment temperature. All electronic devices emit heat. You may experience internet connectivity issues as higher temperatures will cause a reduction in the performance of the gateway.
Our Xfinity Advanced Gateways (XB6 and higher) are equipped with internal fans designed to keep them at an ideal operating temperature. These devices have the ability to know when they're exceeding a safe operating temperature and will automatically reboot to protect them from damage.
Position the internet device to avoid overheating
All Xfinity wireless gateways require proper placement and ventilation to operate optimally.
For the best performance, follow these best practices:
- Do not place the gateway directly on surfaces that may inhibit ventilation such as carpet, rugs, or blankets.
- Do not place the gateway in enclosed areas (such as cabinets or drawers) where the cooling vents are blocked or the flow of air through the ventilation openings is impeded.
- Do not place the gateway near other heat emitting sources such as:
- Heat vents.
- Direct sunlight.
- Other consumer electronics, such as video game systems or stereo receivers/amplifiers.
- Wipe away dust collecting on the top, rear, or bottom of the gateway with a dry cloth.
