Cast content to your Chromecast device from the Xfinity Stream web portal
- Log in to toXfinity Stream portal with your Xfinity ID and password.
- There are two ways you can cast content:
- While you’re watching a program, hover over the player to display the player controls.
- You’ll see a Casting button (to the left of the Mini-Player button). Select the Casting button to connect to your Chromecast device. It will turn solid when you’re connected.
- Select the Casting button again and choose which Chromecast device you’d like to cast the program to. After this, move on to Step 3.
- You’ll see a Casting button (to the left of the Mini-Player button). Select the Casting button to connect to your Chromecast device. It will turn solid when you’re connected.
- Or, while on any page (such as For You, Grid, Completed Recordings, or any Browse page), you’ll see the Casting button (left of the Search Box).
- Click the Casting button. When you’re connected, the button will turn solid.
- After you’re connected, your Chromecast device should display an Xfinity Stream logo along with a Ready to Cast message.
- Go to a program you want to watch and choose which Chromecast device you’d like to cast the program to. After this, move on to Step 3.
- Click the Casting button. When you’re connected, the button will turn solid.
- While you’re watching a program, hover over the player to display the player controls.
- Click on the solid Casting button to show your devices. You’ll see Available underneath the devices that are connected to Chromecast and ready to cast.
- Note: Devices that are not connected to Chromecast will show Source not supported.
- When you choose an available device to cast, you’ll see Connecting underneath it.
- If you want to stop the cast, select the Casting button again and choose Stop casting.
Cast content to your Chromecast device from the Xfinity Stream app
Follow the steps below to cast Xfinity Stream app content to your Chromecast device.
Note: The device you’re streaming from must be on the same WiFi network as the device you’re casting to.
- Open the Xfinity Stream app and sign in with your Xfinity ID and password.
- Note: If you haven’t downloaded the app, see how to download the app and set it up on your mobile device.
- For users on iOS 14+, you may need to give the app permission to find and connect to devices on your local network before using Chromecast.

- Select the Cast icon on the header section of the app.
- You’ll see all your available devices that are connected to Chromecast and ready to cast. Select a device.
- Once you're connected, the Cast icon will be solid. Select a program to cast to your Chromecast device.

- Can't find Chromecast device in the Google Home app
- If you manually restart your Chromecast device, it may take a few minutes before you can see it. The LED must be solid white, which indicates your device is ready.

Eligibility
- Must be an Xfinity customer to stream live TV and Xfinity On Demand content.
- Must be a cloud DVR service customer to stream DVR recordings.
- Must have an Xfinity ID and password to provision service on a mobile device or computer.
- Must be connected to in-home Xfinity Internet network to stream full channel lineup and full Xfinity On Demand library.
- Must be connected to a WiFi or mobile network to stream and download completed DVR recordings.

Device capabilities — Stream limits
Concurrent stream limits apply to Xfinity Stream devices (phone, tablet, laptop):
- Five concurrent streams across all account devices for Xfinity TV and Choice TV customers.
- Only three of these devices can be off the customer’s in-home WiFi network.
- Two concurrent streams across all devices for Xfinity Instant TV customers.
Fully supported Chromecast devices
These devices offer the best compatibility and performance with the Xfinity Stream app on Chromecast.
- Chromecast 4th gen (Chromecast with Google TV, 4K or HD version)
- Chromecast Ultra
Eligible Chromecast devices
These devices are compatible with the Xfinity Stream app, but users may encounter reduced performance, reduced video quality, or increased buffering.
- Chromecast 1st gen, Chromecast 2nd gen, Chromecast 3rd gen
- Select Models of Google Nest Hub (2nd gen)
- Select Models of Google Nest Hub Max
Chromecast enabled Smart TVs
Xfinity Stream allows for casting to a Smart TV with an embedded Chromecast, but support and performance may vary by manufacturer.
- Users of certain devices may see a This device is not supported error message when trying to cast.
- These users will need to cast to a different device.
- See the list of Fully supported Chromecast devices above.
- In some cases, the Xfinity Stream app may freeze on the Ready to Cast screen or with loading dots prior to a video starting.
- This could indicate that the device is incompatible.
- This can potentially be resolved by using a device in the Fully supported Chromecast Devices section.
WiFi connections
- The Chromecast device and your streaming device (iOS, Android or Web) must be on the same WiFi network.
- For Chromecast (1st generation), connection to a WiFi 802.11 b/g/n 2.4 G network.
- For Chromecast, connection to a WiFi 802.11 b/g/n/ac 2.4/5 G network.
- For Chromecast Ultra, connection to a WiFi 802.11 b/g/n/ac 5 G network.
TV connection requirements
Standalone Chromecast devices must be connected to TV or monitor with an HDMI port that supports at least HDCP 1.3.
- Older TV models often do not support HDCP or may only support HDCP on one of the onboard HDMI ports.
- If switching the Chromecast device to a different HDMI port on a different TV does allow the app to play video, then users will need to connect their Chromecast to a newer TV or monitor.

Chromecast is a feature that allows you to stream (cast) content from your computer or mobile device through your WiFi network and onto your TV screen.
What Xfinity Stream content is available on Chromecast devices?
Any Xfinity Stream content that’s available to you can be cast on Chromecast devices, including live and On Demand programming, cloud DVR recordings, and purchases.
Can I purchase a Chromecast device from Xfinity?
No, but Chromecast devices are available for purchase at most major electronics retailers.
Is there a charge for casting Xfinity Stream content on Chromecast?
No, there is no charge for using your Chromecast device with Xfinity Stream.
Will casting from the Stream app or web portal use data from my Xfinity Internet Data Usage Plan?
As long as you’re signed into the Stream app using your Xfinity account and are connected to your in-home WiFi network, it won’t use data from your plan.
Can I cast Xfinity Stream content when my Chromecast device is not connected to my Xfinity in-home WiFi?
Yes, but if you want access to your full channel lineup or on demand library, you must be connected to your in-home Xfinity network. If you are connected to another WiFi network, including Xfinity WiFi hotspots or any xfinitywifi network that may be available in your home, you can still cast, but will only have access to “out of home” programming and, as such, watching/casting will count against your Internet usage.
Can I stream my DVR recordings on Chromecast devices?
Yes, you can stream any DVR recording that’s available in Xfinity Stream when you sign in with your Xfinity ID and password.

Does casting to my Chromecast device take up how many devices I can stream to?
If you have Xfinity TV (X1 and non-X1 service), you can cast concurrently on five devices, but only three devices can be out-of-home network. If you have Xfinity Instant TV, you can cast concurrently on two devices.
