Protect your home from fire damage.
What is smoke monitoring?
Xfinity Home smoke monitoring uses smoke and heat detectors that, together with your primary system, are designed to keep your property safe. When an alarm is triggered, our smoke detectors alert the Central Monitoring Station, which will notify appropriate emergency personnel for you, even if you aren't at home.
Smoke monitoring is available in most areas and locations, but there are some exceptions. Please contact us to find out if smoke monitoring is available for your home.
How does smoke monitoring work?
Smoke monitoring is included with your Xfinity Home service when you buy smoke detectors from Comcast. Smoke detectors are installed by Xfinity Home technicians and communicate with your Xfinity Home system. Smoke detectors are not included in equipment packages, but can be purchased individually.
If an Xfinity Home smoke detector senses smoke or heat, an emergency alarm is sent to our Central Monitoring Station. After attempting to reach you to verify the alarm*, the Central Monitoring Station will contact emergency personnel. No one has to be home to hear an alert in order for you to get the help you need.
If the alarm doesn't need an emergency response, you can use the touchscreen to cancel the audible alarm, but you must still contact the Central Monitoring Station or local fire department (depending on applicable law).
*Note: Unless otherwise required by applicable law.
How do I get smoke monitoring?
Smoke monitoring is included with the Xfinity Home service when you purchase smoke detectors from Comcast.
Before we install the Xfinity Home smoke detectors, we strongly recommend that you ensure your existing smoke alarms meet all codes, laws and standards in your jurisdiction, including the code provisions of the National Fire Protection Association. Contact your local fire department for more information.
If your home already has smoke alarms, we may be able to incorporate them into your Xfinity Home system, supplementing with additional Xfinity Home smoke detectors. Xfinity Home smoke monitoring is a supplemental system and does not replace the existing, primary system that you're responsible for maintaining in your home.
After installation of your Xfinity Home smoke detectors, do not remove or deactivate the existing smoke detectors or smoke alarms in your home, as they make up your primary system.
If your home does not have any smoke alarms, we may still be able to install smoke detectors, however, the installation must meet code requirements (at a minimum a detector inside and outside of each bedroom and on every floor).
If you have Xfinity Home, contact us to make sure smoke monitoring is available in your municipality.
