Last Week: David and Rick reunited, a Tribal riot was incited, and poor Julia was left feeling slighted…
39 Days, 18 People, 1 “Survivor” Blog
Let’s take a look at the tribe as it currently stands…
The Vata Tribe (wearing red)
Aurora, 32 – Divorce Lawyer
David, 44 – Television Writer, also appeared on “Survivor: Millennials vs. Gen-X”
Gavin, 23 – YMCA Program Director
Julie, 46 – Toymaker
Kelley, 31 – Marketing Manager, also appeared on “Survivor: San Juan del Sur” and “Survivor: Second Chance”
Lauren, 21 – Student
Rick, 33 – Morning News Anchor
Ron, 46 – Teacher
Victoria, 23 – Waitress
Wardog, 38 – Law Student
Ooo…the "Previously on 'Survivor'" footage is gone again. What a rollercoaster!
David has no regrets about playing the idol because of what a poopshow last week’s Tribal was.
Wardog pitches a six-person alliance with himself, Kelley, Lauren, Ron, Julie, and Gavin. He wants to have a nice, easy vote and go after Aurora, who seems to be the tribe’s pariah.
Aurora holds herself responsible for the previous week's mess. Although, I'd argue that Julia shares some of the blame for antagonizing Rick. She also says she literally put her foot in her mouth…did I miss her literally doing that?
Immunity Challenge Time: The players will stand with poles on their shoulders. If they raise them too high, a water vase will fall off and douse a flame. If they dip too low, a line will raise a flag. The last person standing with their flame lit and their flag…unraised…will win immunity.
Oh good, I get to use this image again…
Before the challenge starts, Probst offers the players a chance to sit out in exchange for a big pile of pizza. (I'm not being funny here, it's literally pizza in a pile. It looks like something out of "Spaceballs.") Lauren, Victoria, Kelley, and Ron take him up on this weird offer.
Result: Aurora bests David to win immunity.
No joke, a shark is shown devouring minnows! Fortunately, David isn't seen pooping nearby.
It looks like it’s going to come down to the new Lesu Three/Ron/Gavin/Julie alliance targeting Wardog’s nemesis David, while David and Rick are going to try to get Victoria, Aurora, Ron, and Julie on their side to vote out Wardog.
Wait, David is Wardog's nemesis? Did I miss something? I thought Wardog's natural enemy was subtlety.
Anywho, it looks like Ron and Julie are going to be the swing votes.
During the discussion, Wardog makes the point that he, Kelley, and Lauren have been totally loyal to each other. Rick pounces on this, saying it sounds like they'd be a tough group to crack.
Devens is impressing me more and more every episode.
Kelley tries to pick up the pieces, saying they’ve voted together because they had to and it might not last forever.
It feels like Rick and David are doing everything they can to sway people, which leads me to believe that they don’t think they have Ron and Julie.
Voting Time: No votes are shown.
JPro tallies and returns. He asks if anyone wants to play an idol and…nobody does.
Alright, we’ve got one vote for David, one vote for Wardog, one vote for David, one vote for Wardog, three votes for David, and the tenth person voted out of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” and the seventh member of the jury is…David.
And of course David grabs the torch and heads off to the Edge of Extinction.
On the Isle of Extinction
Clues arrive for everyone and it's off to the races. Weirdly, David is the one to find the advantage. Reem's been on the island for months! She should know it better than anyone!
Now David is allowed to give an advantage to anybody he wants in the next immunity challenge. I guess the anchorman is gonna get some good news.
Immunity Challenge Time Part Deux: The players will roll balls down a paddle and into different divots. The first person to get five balls into their divots will win immunity.
Twist: David did give the advantage to Rick, so he will only have to get four balls into place.
Result Part Deux: Rick bested everyone and it wasn’t even close.
Pre-Tribal Politicking Part Deux
Wardog isn’t content to make an easy vote like Aurora, he thinks it’s time to target Kelley.
He very briefly and individually tells Rick, Victoria, and Aurora that this is the vote he wants to make. I'm not exaggerating when I say the conversations are taking seconds.
Oof…this is so risky. If this falls apart, what's to keep them from going straight to Kelley? Although, if she finds out, he can say "I barely talked to them!"
He approaches Ron with the plan, but Ron is very wary of rocking the boat because Julie wants Aurora to go. And Julie does not do well with rocked boats.
In other news, Aurora is trying to figure out what to do with the extra vote I forgot she had. She tells Ron about it and then gives it to him. Huh? I think her plan is that if she gets voted out, it's his. But if he lets her back into his good graces, they can share it.
It’s all very confusing.
Tribal Time Part Deux
Not much of consequence was said other than Probst trying to float a theory that people get addicted to blindsides. That would certainly be good for the producers.
Oh, and also because so few idols are being played, the consensus around camp is that all the idols are at the Edge of Extinction.
Voting Time Part Deux: Julie votes for Aurora, Aurora votes for Kelley, and the rest of the votes are lost to the magic of editing.
Probsty tallies and returns. He asks if anyone wants to play an idol and…nobody does.
OK, we’ve got one vote for Aurora, one vote for Kelley, three votes for Aurora, three votes for Kelley, and the eleventh person voted out of “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” and the eight member of the jury is…Kelley.
Yikes…bad night for returnees.
Anywho, Kelley takes the torch because of course she does.
Verdict: With Kelley and David gone, this is a season for the newbs now. Which…is kind of weird, because I still feel like I don’t know everybody.
Wardog: He pulled together the big alliance and was a key figure in bouncing two talented, seasoned players. Well done, Wardog.
Rick: He’s had quite the rebound after the vote that sent Eric out of the game. He’s gold at Tribal. He can win this thing.
Ron: I would have had you higher, but I worry the Julie thing is going to come back to bite you. I understand not telling her though, if she freaks and talks to Kelley, there’s no telling what could happen.
Aurora: I don’t completely understand the extra vote move. But, you’re not just letting the game happen to you and that should be commended.
Julie: First the meltdown at Tribal in front of the jury and now her ride-and-die is making moves without her. I just can't see her winning at this point.
Gavin, Lauren, and Victoria: I can’t give you full credit if you don’t show your work.
Power Ranking Results: Gabby Pascuzzi had David in spot six, while I had him in spot seven. We both had Kelley in spot one. (Blindside!) So, the current score is Team Gabby 82, Team Gordon 84.
