“Survivor: Edge of Extinction” Power Rankings Round 5 – Here Comes the Boom Edition

“Survivor: Edge of Extinction” (CBS)

The Rules: Each week our two combatants will create separate power rankings. The ranking of the person who is voted out of the next episode will determine the number of points the players will earn. For example, if Joe is voted out this episode, Gabby Pascuzzi will receive ten points and Gordon Holmes will receive twelve points. At the end of the season, the person with the most points will be named the “Survivor: Edge of Extinction” Power Rankings Challenge Champion!

BONUS RULES: Because someone from the Edge of Extinction will be returning to the game, we’ve added a few rules…

  1. If the returnee is voted out this episode, neither competitor will receive points.
  2. Both Gabby and Gordon have chosen the person they think will return to the game. If they have chosen correctly, they will be awarded five points.

Last Week: Gabby had Aubry in spot two and Wendy in spot fourteen, Gordon had Aubry in spot one and Wendy in spot fourteen. So, the current score is Team Gabby 47, Team Gordon 43.

Quick Note: Rankings are not based on who the player thinks is most likely to win. The smart strategy is to rank players based on how safe you think they are in the upcoming vote.

Gabby’s Score: 47

1. Kelley: Remember when Kelley was in a minority right around the merge and had an idol and Jeff had to say “Wentworth, does not count” nine times? Yeah, so does she. And so does everyone else.1. Lauren: It was a rough ride between the challenge issues and the intense intestinal problems, but Lauren has arrived at the merge with an idol and a host of meat shields.
2. Lauren: Underdog queen who wisely gambled and saved her idol for the much more important merge phase. And she’ll finally get fed at the merge feast!2. Kelley: A big week for Kelley last week. Somehow she went from being Lesu’s biggest target to the hub of all the conversation. And she scored an idol to boot. She’s way too savvy to be voted out with it. (Pretend I didn’t say the same thing about Aubry.)
3. Ron: It’s good to keep your options open and keep everyone drinking the #KamaStrong koolaid. But you don’t need Joe’s fishing skills anymore; you have expert clammer David Wright on your merge beach now.3. Julia: I know Julia didn’t buy Joe’s speech about her being viewed as a threat because her tribe won so many immunities. That being said, my biggest fear is Kama sticking together for an easy Wentworth vote and somebody who isn’t obvious being idoled out.
4. Julie: Pulling the wool over a three-time player’s eyes by flattering their ego is quite simply great gameplay. And no one is looking at her as a threat.4. Julie: See Julia
5. Julia: I’ll start getting worried about Julia when she gets a dramatic spike in screen time. Until then, quiet is safe and safe is good!5. Victoria: Sign me up for a ticket on the Victoria Bandwagon. She was amazing last week. Between convincing a seasoned player like Aubry that she was on her side, to smartly not betting her game on Wildcard Wendy. Two thumbs up. Way up.
6. Eric: Glad to know he has a buddy in Gavin, and I have a feeling the two of them will go far together. He should continue to stay under the radar and let others make flashy moves.6. Ron: I watched Matthew Perry in “The Ron Clark Story” over the weekend and…holy cow. First of all, I was bummed Ron didn’t run into Joe Tribbiani on the streets of New York. And second, if a quarter of what happened in that movie is true, then this dude is truly fearless. Watch out.
7. Victoria: Hoping it’s not Aubry who comes back into the game and exacts revenge upon her. And also hoping no one has figured out yet how sneaky she is.7. Gavin: Some people feel like making big moves at the merge is a necessity. I totally disagree. Someone who would usually be safe, like Gavin, can really make a mistake if they roll the dice at the wrong time.
8. Gavin: Strong dudes are always in danger at the merge. He should have enough relationships to stay safe, but sometimes you can’t control where a stray bullet flies.8. Aurora: Aurora seems like a ton of fun, please show us more of her. Right now the only thing I know about her is that she’s gonna be in trouble if Joe goes on an immunity run.
9. Aurora: If anyone decides to come for Joe, they’re likely considering getting rid of Aurora too.9. Eric: If…and this is a big if…Joe and Aurora don’t trust Kama and decide to partner with classic Manu and whoever is returning to the game…then maybe Eric could possibly be a target…maybe.
10. Joe: Everyone’s talking about getting Joe out, even the #KamaStrong contingent. Guess he better start his immunity run now and hope he can go… ten immunities straight?10. David: Someday we’re going to remember “Edge of Extinction” as the season where newbies finally got smart when squaring off against returnees. There’s no way David is safe.
11. David: Out of the Lesu four, the two guys are the most vulnerable. They don’t have idols and they’re in the extreme minority. Would Kelley save David to try to hold on to both a returnee and a Lesu number?11. Wardog: As the person who looks the most physical (notice I said “looks” the most physical) on the tribe that’s down in numbers, you’re going to be an easy, early target.
12. Wardog: Your tribe wouldn’t go to rocks for you last week, so I am hesitant to think they’d stick their neck out for you this week. And erratic players always get targeted as the merge because they’re too risky to move forward with.12. Joe: Look, we all knew the deal for you heading into this season; as soon as we hit the merge, you were going to have to permanently stay on Defcon 1. It’s entirely possible that the first time you see Tribal Council will also be your last.
Bonus Pick – Chris: Even though he may get slowed down by extra knots assigned to him by Keith, he’s extremely physical which places him leaps and bounds ahead of his less athletic pre-merge Edge of Extinction cohabitants. Given the obstacle course I saw in the preview, that’s probably his ticket to the merge.Bonus Pick – Aubry: Sometimes you rank with your heart instead of your head. C’mon, Aubry!
