Black Entertainment Options on Watchathon

Watchathon Week 2017 runs April 3 through April 9.

Just a few years ago, there weren’t that many scripted TV series with a predominantly black cast or black people in prominent roles. But now, thanks to “the Shonda Effect” (yes, as in “Scandal” creator Shonda Rhimes), TV and cable networks are showcasing more quality series featuring black characters with more prominence, depth and complexity. You know, your Lucious and Cookie Lyon (“Empire”), Annalise Keating (“How to Get Away with Murder”) and all of the characters on FX’s “Atlanta,” to name a few.

Having these newer options are beyond wonderful, but many viewers haven’t been able to check out them all out. Are you one of them? If so, then you need to cozy up with your remote or mobile device and participate in Watchathon Week 2017.

Watchathon, XFINITY's annual binge-watching event, allows TV customers like you to catch up on their favorite series or check out ones they've been curious about. These fans can enjoy unlimited access to all of Netflix, Starz®, Showtime® and more, free with XFINITY On Demand.

So, if you’ve been eyeing Starz hits “Power” and “Survivor’s Remorse” or are curious about all of the buzz NBC’s “This Is Us” has received, or maybe you want to check out a few of the Netflix series, now’s the time.

Watchathon Week runs through Sunday. Check out a few of the shows available to watch online below.
