Fall TV 2016 – Checking In with David E. Kelley

David E. Kelley’s latest series, ‘Goliath.’

David E. Kelley, yes, that one – Ally McBeal, The Practice, Picket Fences, and Boston Legal – is back with Goliath, a new legal thriller debuting October 14 on Amazon. With Billy Bob Thornton and William Hurt as leads, you could be on any network. Why Amazon? The short answer is we went there first and they made us a deal we couldn’t refuse. We got a straight to series order, which might not have happened elsewhere. What do you watch on TV? Not much broadcast anymore, sad to say. I’m hoping it evolves and tries to compete with some of the content on cable because I grew up on broadcast and I have affection for it. I wish they’d make people’s favorite shows again and not widgets. If not broadcast, what do you watch? I’m a news junkie, so way more Trump than I should be watching. I loved The People vs OJ Simpson, and I loved the documentary on ESPN even more. Can you see writing a special Ally McBeal – you know, what happened to her? No, but I think Ally would make a great television show again but with a younger writer’s perspective. I’m a 60-year-old fart.
