By the end of season two of the Starz drama, “Black Sails,” we had found out about Captain Flint’s past gay relationship and saw him devastated at the death of Miranda (Louise Barnes).
We also saw that mischievous threesome Max (Jessica Parker Kennedy), Bonny (Clara Paget) and Rackham (Toby Schmitz) were seeing dollar signs (and the potential for a new life) by suddenly having a whole lot of gold in their possession. But is Max better off solo or are she and Bonny built to last as a couple?
As season 3 starts this weekend, we’ll see just how wrecked Flint (Toby Stephens) is and how he’s acting out on the high seas. And, yes, while Max, Bonny and Rackham suddenly have nicer clothes, they’re smart enough to know that more than a few people would be interested in taking their new fortune off their hands.
And what about Charles Vane (Zach McGowan)? After becoming partners and lovers with Eleanor (Hannah New), their relationship soured in a big way (he killed her father so that might have something to do with it) so the new season holds their reunion, which should be interesting to say the least. Also, for Vane, is having his buddy, Blackbeard (Ray Stevenson) show up going to be a good thing or will it only complicate things further?
I was on the South Africa set of "Black Sails" last January when they were in the midst of shooting the early episodes of the third season. Let's see what Stephens, McGowan and Kennedy told me about what we'll see this season.
First up, Stephens talks about how Flint wants to leave himself behind but the death of Miranda changed much of that…
Kennedy talks of how Max has big decisions to make about her life direction while McGowan shared that Vane makes some “drastic steps”…
“Black Sails” airs Saturdays at 9pm on Starz.
