Did you catch the “Power” season 2 premiere? It was something, right?
The lives of James “Ghost” St. Patrick (Omari Hardwick), his wife Tasha (Naturi Naughton), his mistress Angela (Lela Loren), his business partner Tommy (Joseph Sikora), his mentor Kanan (Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson) and Kanan’s son Shawn (Sinqua Walls) definitely have gotten more complicated. And it’s just the first episode of the season.
I really don’t want to give too much away in case you haven’t watched it, but there are some things that I’ve got to address from that premiere.
1) Ghost, Tasha and the drug game:
Ghost: “I’ve got a f—— mountain of cocaine with no Tommy to help me move it.”
Tasha: "You've got me. I've helped you before, remember? Show me."
I just knew Ghost would then reply, “Baby, you’re my wife, the mother of my kids, I can’t allow you to get involved.” Apparently, Ghost forgot this and sat down immediately to give her an update. But, Tasha, in true Lady Macbeth fashion, reminds her man of his power and he could be “the biggest goddamn drug dealer in New York City.” She started breaking things down, opening his eyes to possibilities he hadn’t even considered.
Ghost: “Thank you. Without Tommy, I need your help.”
Tasha: "You got me, Ghost. Always have. There's just one thing I need you to do for me: Stop seeing Angela."
Ghost looked like he'd just seen a ghost when she said that. He said he'd handle it. And handle it, he did…
Oh, he’s definitely going to be a problem for Ghost. Last season we learned that Kanan — who mentored Ghost and who Ghost, in return, took care of when he was incarcerated — hired the female assassin Pink Sneakers (Leslie Lopez) to take out the competition, including Ghost. And he just knew she successfully offed Ghost. You should’ve seen the grin on Kanan’s face when his son, Shawn, learned that Ghost was shot. We also saw how quickly his grin faded when he overhead that Ghost was still alive. Within minutes, Kanan went to look for Pink Sneakers, and once he realized she was ghost (pun intended), he roughed up the dude that connected him to her. We then learn that Pink Sneakers’ failure won’t be Kanan’s only attempt on Ghost’s life. He’s out for blood and won’t stop ’til he’s on top.
3) Tommy and his momma:
After learning that Angela was a federal agent, Tommy went to hide out at his mother's house. When we meet his mother, Kay, we see why Tommy is, well, Tommy. His temper, his love of "blow" (he and Kay do lines together), his need to be on top- all of it sort of makes sense now. Kay is something else and she and her son seem to have more of a brother-sister relationship than mother-son one. Will we see more of Kay? I guess we have to wait and see.
A few of the 10 questions from the season 1 finale were addressed, but were they completely answered? Watch the season 2 episode below to find out.
