“Red Band Society” is set to air episode five, “So Tell Me What You Want, What You Really, Really Want,” at 9pm tonight on FOX. But don’t be surprised if you don’t see one of your favorite nurses, Kenji, played by Wilson Cruz working the hospital halls. XFINITY Latino caught up with Cruz at the 2014 Alma Awards last week and got the scoop about when we can expect to see more of him on the freshman series.
We spoke to Nolan Sotillo (who plays Jordi Palacios) recently and learned how much he likes to sing. Any chance we’ll hear you sing on the show?
"Don't you love him? Both of us are the song birds on set. So it's always him or me singing on that set driving everyone crazy."
"We're talking about it, yeah. We're trying to see how we can work it in to my characters storyline. So yes, there's lots of music on the show and we're trying to work out a good and real way of having it happen."
We want to see more of Nurse Kenji! How much more of him will we see as the season progresses?
“In this first season, I’m a recurring character. If and when we are renewed for a second season, I’ll become a season regular and then you’ll be seeing a lot more of me. I was in the first four episodes, and I’m in at least four more but it could be more than that. We’re going to start seeing a lot more of the relationship between Nurse Jackson (Octavia Spencer) and Nurse Kenji. And we’re actually going to see a lot more of me and Kara (Zoe Levin). Kara reminds Kenji a lot of who he was when he was a young person. He was a bit of a b**** so he knows who she really is so he can call her on her stuff a lot easier.
As we continue to progress with the show, there’s going to be a lot more revealed about why Kenji is a nurse and why he has decided to do this with his life.”
The kids get away with a lot. Will we continue to see this push/pull between them and the adults throughout the season?
“Not with me they don’t. You have no idea. I see Kenji more as an older sibling figure to them, whereas Nurse Jackson and Dr. McAndrew (Dave Annable) are more like parental figures. We’re going to find out that there’s a reason why Kenji relates to these kids so much. So we’re going to see a lot more of him, trust me.”
