Beyoncé’s Dad Claims Elevator Incident Was Fake

“Housewives” NeNe Leakes heads to Broadway; Ja Rule’s family-based docu-series heads to MTV; Plus my watchlist and what’s hot (Harry Belafonte’s latest honor) and not (a gynecologist secretly recording patients).

Remember that vicious elevator fight between Solange Knowles and her brother-in-law Jay Z during the Met Gala after-party last May? You know the one recorded on a hotel elevator surveillance video that showed Beyoncé’s baby sis throwing high kicks at the rap mogul? It spurred all types of infidelity and divorce rumors plus kiss-and-makeup stories that continue to make headlines (including this one). Well, apparently that was all staged, according to the sisters’ father Mathew Knowles.

“The Jedi mind trick fools you a lot of times…Everybody’s talking about it, ticket sales went up, Solange’s album sales went up 200 percent. Hmmm,” said Mathew, who used to manage Bey until 2011, during a recent interview with a Houston radio show. Hmm is right!

What Papa Knowles implies could be true. The elevator incident and the divorce rumors could be part of a larger publicity stunt to increase ticket sales to Bey and Jay’s “On the Run” summer tour as well as sales of any albums released by the three of them. And if it is true, Solange needs to be cast in a film or maybe as a young Mama Pope on ABC’s “Scandal” ASAP because she looked as if she was seriously trying to jack Jay Z up on that elevator. She appeared to be out for blood. Or… maybe there are some serious issues within that familial relationship and Mathew’s comments are a red herring. Or… maybe Mathew’s remarks are a way for him to increase enrollment in his course, “The Entertainment Industry: How To Get In?,” at Houston Community College Central on Sept. 13. Or… maybe Old Man Johnson was disguised as Solange on the elevator and is really responsible for all of this. I mean, seriously, the possible scenarios are endless and who (on the outside) really knows what went down? I said it before and I’ll say it again: the Carters have very savvy PR and marketing teams hired to keep them on our minds so anything is possible. The fact that I’m typing this and you’re reading it means they’re doing something right though some folks are claiming Knowles-Carter fatigue.

Check out the “Entertainment Tonight” clip below featuring video footage from Mathew’s radio interview and judge for yourself. Is Mathew really the one playing Jedi mind tricks? (P.S. Happy Belated Birthday, Bey!)

NeNe Leakes cast in “Cinderella”

If you didn’t think she was rich before …NeNe Leakes, one of our favorite “Housewives,” will star as the evil stepmother in Broadway’s “Cinderella.” NeNe will play Madame from Nov. 25 to Jan. 3, joining KeKe Palmer, who was cast last month as Broadway’s first black Cinderella. NeNe will replace former “The View” co-host Sherri Shepherd in the role. Honey, I don’t know when NeNe found out about this but I’m sure her “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” co-stars will hear an earful if the deal was sealed during the upcoming season’s taping. A lot people may hate on Mrs. Leakes but you really can’t be mad at her. She’s selling it and people are buying it (Her HSN clothing line is an example).  Would you go journey to the Great White Way to see her performance?

Ja Rule, the latest Cliff Huxtable incarnation?

Hey, if T.I., Snoop and Rev. Run can do it, why not Ja Rule? That’s exactly what MTV thought when it ordered “Follow the Rules,” a 30-minute docu-series centered around the Grammy-nominated rapper turned actor and his family. Though this concept isn’t original, it could be very interesting given that Ja was released from prison last year after serving two years for tax evasion charges and attempted criminal possession of a weapon. What makes this even more interesting is that his mother and his mother-in-law live with him and his wife, Aisha, and their two sons. The couple also has a daughter who’s a sophomore in college and apparently feeling herself. Add in that Ja was the man 10 years ago when his label Murder Inc. was on top. Oh, and did I mention that he’s found Jesus, too? So, yeah, this could be very interesting. No word on when it’ll air but you can peep a sneak below. They look like a lovable, lively bunch, don’t they?
