In case you've been under a rock, the 45th NAACP Image Awards aired live Saturday on TV One. There was plenty of excitement that took place on the red carpet, during the show and at the after-party. And guess what? We were there! I corralled my three most memorable moments from the weekend in Pasadena, Calif. Missed the NAACP Image Awards? Watch a re-airing Thursday on TV One.
Interviewing Oprah Winfrey on the red carpet. She’s the one person it seems that everyone wanted a comment from. And I was lucky enough to have her answer a couple of my questions, one which she called “beautiful.” Oprah arrived in a stunning orange gown with her “daughter,” presumably a student from her Leadership Academy in South Africa. When I asked her about what tips she gave her buddy Tyler Perry in preparation for his new OWN talk show, “Tyler: The Tyler Perry Show,” she said none. “Oh, I gave him no pointers. One thing that’s great about Tyler, the thing that’s amazing about Tyler, is that he has the ability to be 100 percent himself and that’s what makes you good. All of the people who’re pretending to be something else, as you can say. The thing that makes a good talk show host is that you can go straight to yourself. So when you are standing there, people feel your truth. And he has that.” Well said! “Tyler: The Tyler Perry Show” debuts Tuesday evening after “The Haves and the Have Nots” on OWN. Will you check it out?
The overall awards show. Having been to a few awards shows, I found the 45th NAACP Image Awards refreshing for two main reasons: It was taut and ran within the allotted two-hour limit and it seems that the who’s who came out for it. The Image Awards always has been a classy event and it’s nice to see that tradition continuing on its new network home, TV One. Anthony Anderson was a funny host and the presenters were captivating as well. It ran smoothly, thanks in part to Oscar-nominated filmmaker and producer Reginald Hudlin returning as its producer. I’m sure Cathy Hughes, chairperson and founder of Radio One, Inc., TV One’s parent company, is smiling.
Ledisi and Stevie Wonder onstage together. What do you get when you have two uber talented individuals sharing the spotlight? A good time! Ledisi held her own onstage during the NAACP Image Awards after-party. I mean, this girl is hot! She’s a very gifted, authentic artist. But when she escorted the legendary Stevie Wonder to join her, it was on. And Stevie was so smooth, creating a song based off telling the hyped crowd to “Shhh.” Only he could make shushing that cool!
Here’s what else is happening…
Guest Editor Tamron Hall joins “Today.” Everyone had a feeling something was brewing and when we asked our Black History Month guest editor Tamron Hall if she’d be joining the “Today” show, the MSNBC host told us, “I think anything is possible. I would never say the doors here are closed on any opportunity.” Tamron, who hosts “NewsNation with Tamron Hall” on MSNBC and “Deadline: Crime with Tamron Hall” Investigation Discovery, will co-host “Today’s” Take, the 9 a.m. hour of the show, joining fellow hosts Al Roker, Natalie Morales and Willie Geist, according to Today.com. Congrats to Tamron, who’ll be working on all three shows! Whew, girl! Read more about her new gig here. Also, be sure to check out her compelling interview with Xfinity here.
Kandi Burruss, Mama Joyce and Todd Tucker on “The View.” With all of the Image Awards excitement I missed a few of my regular shows and will be catching up tonight. However, I did want to share a bit from “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” co-star Kandi Burruss, her mother Mama Joyce and fiance Todd Tucker’s recent appearance on ABC’s “The View.” As I’ve previously said, Mama Joyce isn’t a fan of Todd and has been dissing him pretty hard on the show this season. Actually, Mama Joyce’s behavior has been downright ugly, with her antics lending to her trending on Twitter often. She brought some of that shade to “The View.” And the hosts didn’t hesitate to call her out on it. “You have a man in your life, right? Is she up in your business?” Co-host Whoopi Goldberg asked, to which Mama Joyce answered, “no.” Whoopi continued, “We don’t have time for this mess. Let her make the mistake if shes going to make the mistake.” Plus Todd explained his case, which seemed pretty solid to me, and Kandi, despite what she promised herself, cried. You know, it’s pretty unfortunate that this is even happening and even more so if all this was created for ratings. Watch more here.

On my watchlist? What I’m tuning in to see and what I’ll catch up with XFINITY On Demand…
“Blood, Sweat & Heels”: I missed Sunday’s episode and will see what foolishness will ensue this week. Hopefully, I won’t have a reason to duck and hide. It airs Sundays at 9 p.m. EST on Bravo. Watch it here.
“The Walking Dead”: Yep, missed this one, too. The season’s started a bit slow and I hope the excitement will return. That probably means more Walker attacks. It airs Sundays at 8 p.m. EST on AMC. Watch it here.
The Hot List: Who/What’s Hot, Not
HOT: Kerry Washington at the NAACP Image Awards. (She looked absolutely stunning!)
NOT: Monique Latrice Winston supposedly barricading her children, 5 and 3, in a closet. (O_o)
HOT: “Scandal” creator Shonda Rhimes throwing the show’s star Kerry Washington a baby shower. (That’s the type of boss you want to work for!)
NOT: Willie Noble allegedly firing shots at teens after discovering his car covered in eggs, mayonnaise and toilet paper; he fatally shot Adrian Broadway, 15. (Was that response really necessary?)
