Milian Doesn’t Blame Julianne for ‘DWTS’ Elimination

Did guest judge Julianne Hough’s harsh critique of Christina Milian and pro partner Mark Ballas cause the team to be eliminated from “Dancing with the Stars”?

That’s what Milian, the former social media correspondent for “The Voice,” was wondering after her shocking ouster on Monday night’s “Dancing.”

Although Christina and Mark received the first perfect 10 of the season on Monday for their vibrant cha cha cha, and tied for the night’s highest cumulative score with a 28 out of 30, the pair were booted off the ABC reality show.

“I was shocked, for sure,” Christina admitted to reporters after Monday’s elimination.

The singer implied that Julianne, who subbed for judge Len Goodman last week, might have hurt Christina’s chances after Hough criticized Christina and Mark’s foxtrot a week earlier, implying that Ballas habitually seized the limelight and drew attention away from his dance partners.

Later, in interviews after the Oct. 7 show, Ballas slammed Hough — herself a former dance pro on “DWTS” — for being “hypocritical.”

Christina sighed after this past Monday's show, "To be honest with you, after having a great performance, you feel a lot more confident. But you know in the back of your mind, a lot of this was swayed by votes. And we knew last week wasn't the best week based on everything with Julianne and all that stuff that happened, so we didn't know what the outcome would be."

Sadly for Milian, the outcome was bad, as she and Mark were sent packing instead of Leah Remini and her partner, Tony Dovolani.

Christina said of Julianne, "She has a presence and followers and she's very likable, so I mean, yeah, we could have worked on our dance more but we did do a great job so who knows? I don't want to blame it on her."

Still, Christina admitted their dance this week sought to address Julianne’s concerns — by placing Milian front and center in the cha cha cha.

“Absolutely, [it] was in response to what Julianne said and Mark purposely said, ‘If she thinks I overshadow you, we’re going to have a whole intro with just you dancing’.”

But it wasn't enough. Although upset by having to leave, Christina said, "I don't think it's rigged at all. It's plain and simple - votes, judges' scores. I just probably needed more people to vote for me last week."

Mark didn't walk the press line with Christina, and Millian confided of the long-time "DWTS" pro, "I think he's still in shock. Both of us are just in shock. He's just like, [telling Milian], 'Sorry.' And I told him, 'You did such a great job, dude. It's nothing to do with you.' We haven't shared a lot of words yet but we'll be on a plane a little while," she said, referring to the flight to New York the two would soon take for post-elimination press duties.

Christina told XfinityTV it was also hard because it was Personal Stories’ week, in which the celebrities told viewers about the most memorable years of their lives. For Christina, the year was 2010, when she gave birth to her daughter, Violet — but also, in the same year, divorced Violet’s father, the R&B singer known as The-Dream, because he cheated on her.

"This whole week - between the whole thing with Julianne and on top of that, opening up, and worrying could I get kicked off? [But] I'm really proud of myself for opening up and there's a lot of people who relate to what I went through and maybe [I'm] making somebody else stronger, so I'm happy," she said.
