The gift — a potted plant that had been shaped into a heart — was toted to the “Leno” show by Aisha Tyler, who came on “The Tonight Show” to promote her new autobiographical book, “Self-Inflicted Wounds: Heartwarming Tales of Epic Humiliation.”
Tyler is one of Osbourne’s co-hosts on “The Talk,” so Sharon’s revelation of a fling with Leno — a tryst that occurred several years before either of them were married to others — would certainly have to be discussed when Aisha went on “Tonight.”
So Leno took care of this piece of business right away. “I must say I got a lot of phone calls this week after ‘The Talk’ aired,” Leno said after Tyler came on-stage and sat down.
Tyler then recapped the situation. “Yes, for those of you who don’t know, this is our premiere week on ‘The Talk’ and what we did was all of the ladies on the show told a secret, a story they never told anybody in their public life, or not to each other, so it was a surprise to everybody at the table,” Tyler said. “Sharon Osbourne told a story about a fling she had when she was a young woman with one Jay Leno — right?”
“Well, this was before I was married, before Sharon was married — we were just two single people …,” Leno said.
Then, Tyler reached behind her chair and revealed the heart-shaped plant she had borne to “The Tonight Show” on Sharon’s behalf. She then read the card Sharon included: “Dear Jay,” the card said, “Thanks for the memories and for driving me into the arms of the Prince of Darkness!” That is, of course, the nickname for Sharon’s husband, rocker Ozzy Osbourne.
"It's a heart!" declared Leno. "Sharon gave me a heart-on!" Jay quipped.
