Paul McCartney took over “The Colbert Report” Wednesday night for nearly an hour, although Colbert maintained that it was he, not his superstar guest, who controlled the proceedings.

At the outset of the show, when Colbert laid out the conditions under which McCartney agreed to appear, it became apparent that McCartney was calling the shots, including arranging for the nightly Comedy Central show to be taped in the middle of Wednesday afternoon to accommodate Sir Paul’s schedule.

Of course, anything McCartney wanted, Colbert was glad to give him. In return, the former Beatle - perhaps the best-known music star on Earth - sang five songs and sat for an interview with Colbert.

The five songs were “I’ve Just Seen a Face,” “Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite,” “Lady Madonna” (all Beatles songs), “Hi Hi Hi” and “Listen to What the Man Said” (both songs from Paul McCartney and Wings).
