Cancelled ABC Series Fail to Find New Homes on Cable

“Happy Endings” and “Body of Proof” — both cancelled by ABC — won’t be getting new lives on cable, Deadline.com reports.

In the wake of their cancellations earlier this month — revealed when neither show was renewed as part of the programming plans ABC announced for next fall — producers of both shows reportedly hoped they would get picked up and continued by cable networks.

It’s a mini-trend in which a handful of shows have had second lives on cable after their cancellations by broadcast networks, most notably: “Cougar Town,” now seen on TBS, and “Southland,” the cop drama that now calls TNT home.

That will not be the case, however, for “Happy Endings,” a sitcom starring Elisha Cuthbert, and “Body of Proof,” the drama series about a medical examiner that starred Dana Delany. The Deadline story reports that USA Network — apparently the best candidate for picking up “Happy Endings” — has now passed on the show.

As for “Body of Proof,” that show was shopped around, the story said, but could generate no interest among the cable channels.
