Leave it to Howard Stern to get some juicy bits out of Katie Couric.

While interviewing Couric on Tuesday, Stern naturally inquired about “the whole ‘Today’  controversy” last year.

Katie revealed that she and her former “Today” show co-host Matt Lauer had considered “teaming up and doing a show at some point.” She also divulged that producers were mulling the idea of bringing Katie back to the morning show after the Ann Curry Debacle.

“There were some cautious overtures to me to possibly come back to the ‘Today’ show,” Couric said, “but then they sort of evaporated.”

When Stern wondered if “Katie“, who now has a successful daytime talk show, would have even wanted to come back to “Today”, she didn’t say yes or no, but professed her love for the gig: “You know, for me, that was the best job.”

Stern, of course, also wanted to know about the former co-stars’ true chemistry and got Couric to admit she once had a crush on Lauer.

“You know what, I actually had a little crush on Matt when he was the local news anchor at WNBC because I thought he was so funny and so quick,” Couric admitted.
