No Cliffhanger for Hargitay as She Re-Signs With ‘SVU’

Mariska Hargitay made it official with a Tweet over the weekend: She will be back for the 15th season of “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” this fall.

Fact is, until we read the story on the Hollywood Reporter Web site here, we were not aware that Hargitay’s return was in any sort of doubt.

But if there was any doubt, there isn't any now. "Happy weekend. It's official. Season 15-I'LL BE BACK!" she announced on Twitter.

Hargitay, 49, has been on the long-running NBC series since the beginning, and she’s won an Emmy for her role as Det. Olivia Benson.

Long-time fans really can't imagine the show without her. More to the point, they probably can't imagine a season premiere episode without her this fall because the current season just ended with a serial rapist holding her prisoner at gunpoint. Our assumption is: NBC wouldn't have permitted such a cliffhanging season-ender if the star wasn't planning to return.

We happen to have the “SVU” season finale right here:
