NBC Renews ‘Parks and Recreation,’ Cancels Four Series

One of NBC’s beloved sitcoms will remain a part of its Thursday night comedy lineup for another season.

Parks and Recreation” has been renewed by NBC, the network announced Thursday afternoon.

Not that its future was ever really in question, but “Parks and Rec” fans can go off and celebrate knowing for sure that Amy Poehler and co. will be back for a sixth season. Now “Community” on the other hand….

But NBC has dropped the axe on at least two other struggling sitcoms. “Whitney,” starring comedian Whitney Cummings, has been cancelled after two seasons, according to Deadline.com. Jenna Elfman’s freshman comedy “1600 Penn” has also been cancelled, as predicted.

“Parks” joins the previously announced NBC renewals for “Revolution,” “Chicago Fire,” “Grimm,” “Parenthood” and “Law & Order: SVU.”
