Don’t fret “Downton Abbey” fans, the matriarch of the series is staying put.
Series exec producer Gareth Neame confirmed to TVLine on Sunday that Maggie Smith, aka the Dowager Countess, will come back for season four of the show. The addition solidifies the core cast members for the show.
The report states that over the summer, show creator Julian Fellowes wasn't sure of the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning actress would even be back, stating "I can't tell you, 'Oh, yes, she's definitely contracted [for Season 4] - because she isn't," he said. "It's entirely up to her when she stays and when she goes.
The premiere of season three of “Downton Abbey” drew 7.9 million people, according to PBS, more that quadruple the average viewership for the network in primetime.
