Barbara Walters ‘Disappointed’ by Lindsay Lohan, Burned by Leno Booking

Barbara Walters thinks Lindsay Lohan blew it, and by the way, she doesn’t appreciate being fibbed to.

The veteran journalist spoke on Monday’s “The View” about losing out on Lindsay Lohan’s first major interview in years, saying how “disappointed” she was by the cancellation of their “20/20” sitdown.

"My interview with Lindsay is canceled," Walters explained. "She has new PR people, a very well-known group that we do business with all the time."

When Walters asked why it was cancelled, she was told by Lohan’s new rep that “Lindsay doesn’t feel up to it.”

Walters bought the excuse at first, saying, "Well, I mean, she has a lot of problems, and it was just one more. I said, 'Poor girl, I hope when she feels like it, she will do it with us.'"

But the media reported Team Lohan axed the chat because they were not pleased with the direction Walters planned to take the interview.

Walters feels she was owed a “more honest explanation.”

“If they’d said to me ‘You know, Barbara, she isn’t up to the kinds of questions that you might ask’ … I wouldn’t feel quite as disappointed as I do today,” Walters said, bristling at Monday’s news that Lohan apparently does feel up to talking to Jay Leno.

It seems Lohan needs to fulfill a one-interview requirement to promote her turn as Elizabeth Taylor in the upcoming Lifetime movie “Liz & Dick,” so she’ll be appearing next week on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” instead.

Walters says it’s too bad because Lohan, 26, could have used the high-profile ABC interview with her as an opportunity to “set a lot of things straight” about her troubled personal life.

Walters has no problems with Jay Leno, however, even if insinuating his interview with Lohan will be full of fluff.

"I love Jay. More power to him," Walters said. However, "I think I would have helped her," she said. "I think to go on Jay Leno and be adorable and amusing, there's still all the problems with her."

Look for Lindsay Lohan on the Nov. 20 episode of “The Tonight Show” and the premiere of her Elizabeth Taylor biopic on Lifetime the following week.
