‘Grey’s Anatomy’s Leading Actors Set to Return

Grey's Anatomy (ABC)

Don’t be fooled by those doom and gloom reports: The main stars of “Grey’s Anatomy” are coming back.

All original cast members — including Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Sandra Oh, Justin Chambers, James Pickens Jr. and Chandra Wilson — have signed new deals to return next fall for the ABC medical drama’s ninth season.

Successful contract negotiations are complete according to Deadline, who also reports the cast is in fact on board for two more seasons.

Because the fates (of their contracts) were up in the air, showrunner Shonda Rhimes had to compensate by writing this year’s Season 8 finale in such a way that would allow certain characters to exit Seattle Grace should it come to that.

So happy fans dodged a bullet there … but that doesn’t mean everyone on the show is safe. As it’s been teased in recent weeks, a beloved character will die in next week’s season finale (airing May 17). At least we now know it isn’t a McDreamy or a McMeredith.

“Grey’s Anatomy” airs Thursdays at 9/8c on ABC.
