James Van Der Beek talked about Dean Cain’s guest-starring role on two episodes of his upcoming ABC show “Don’t Trust the B—- in Apt. 23.” And the plot will feature the two heartthrobs competing against each other on a faux “Dancing with the Stars“!

xfinityTV caught up with the former “Dawson’s Creek” star when he made a cameo appearance in the audience Tuesday on “DWTS.” His new sitcom premieres tonight at 9:30/8:30c on ABC.

On an “Apt. 23” episode set to air later in the season, “the fake me goes to the fake Dancing with the Stars,” James said, he’s play an exaggerated version of himself on the comedy. And look for DWTS pro Karina Smirnoff in a guest-starring role playing the dance partner of Dean Cain.

"Dean Cain is my nemesis on the show because he's Superman - how can I dance against Superman? His partner is Karina. I'm really nervous. He showed up, played himself, and was a great sport. He's hilarious. It's suffice to say my character takes it very, very seriously … way too seriously."

James had to take dance lessons for the storyline but smiled that “it did not come easily and did not come quickly.

"It's a crazy, off-the-wall comedy, really original," James said of the new sitcom. "I play the bitch's best friend. It was the best script I'd read in years."

“If you do not want to be offended, do not watch it,” he joked, but added, “These characters engage in some pretty crazy behavior but at the end of the day, they’re people you want to hang out with, I think.”
