Many women have a certain idea of what their perfect Valentine’s Day includes, and it’s usually more along the lines of chocolates and flowers than anything from Energizer or Duracell.
However, when asked by her “View” co-host Whoopi Goldberg, “What does Sal do for you,” newlywed Sherri Shepherd replied, “Nothing yet. When he asked ‘What do you want?’ I said, ‘A pack of batteries.'”
The hosts continued with their “Hot Topics” segment until Whoopi, perturbed, stopped the conversation and turned to Shepherd.
“Sherri, something’s been bothering me the whole time I’m been sitting here… You’re telling me you just got married and he didn’t do anything?” asked Goldberg.
Just as the words had come out of her mouth, the lights in the studio dimmed and Shepherd’s husband, TV writer Lamar “Sal” Sally appeared at the stop of the steps in the studio. Shepherd, overwhelmed, burst into tears. Sally, carrying an enormous bouquet of long-stemmed roses and baby’s breath, descended the stairs to be with his bride, singing The Temptations’ “My Girl” as a slideshow of the couple played behind his wife.
A tearful Shepherd greeted her husband with kisses, saying over and over, “I didn’t expect something.”
"For all those guys at home feeling bad that you haven't done anything for your wife," said a grinning Goldberg. "Take a page from Sal's book."
