In just two weeks, the Nerd Herd will be stabled permanently as the NBC spy dramedy “Chuck” airs its final episodes in a two-hour finale January 27.

It’s been a long and winding road for Chuck Bartowski (Zachary Levi), the geeky computer expert-turned-super-spy, and Sarah Walker (Yvonne Strahovski), the super-spy-turned-trophy wife, but according to Strahovski, the couple’s drama is far from over. The 29-year-old actress had been running the publicity circuit for several projects this week, when she revealed a disconcerting bit about Chuck’s final mission.

“I had very specific things that I thought [the finale] was going to be, and it turned out to be not what I thought,” Strahovski told TVLine. “There will be a satisfying ending, but it’s almost slightly, slightly tragic.”

To say that Yvonne’s revelation is more alarming to fans than it is reassuring would be an understatement. I followed up with the actress during an interview for her film “Killer Elite” – which is now available on XFINITY On Demand, DVD and Blu-ray – and asked her to elaborate. Which she did. Sort of.

"I hope that NBC isn't mad at me for promoting the final episode like that," she said, laughing. "It might get people watching."

Strahovski continued, "It's definitely a surprise turn. It's not the way I expected [the finale] to go. It's definitely satisfying in the end, but we've got to get there somehow. And it is somewhat sad, what's happening."

When I jokingly suggested that I’ll assume Chuck dies, she simply replied with a laugh and, “Ok.”

“Chuck” has been in a permanent state of limbo since the end of the second season, with fans mounting successful Internet campaigns to save the struggling geek show each year since. Unfortunately, that enthusiasm didn’t translate into ratings – a stinging point recently made by NBC President Bob Greenblatt.

"Have you seen the ratings for 'Chuck'? Unfortunately, that rabid fan base that was going crazy on the 'net didn't come to the show," he said after a Television Critics Association press conference, later adding, "'Chuck' is over. Let's alert the masses."
