OK, now Ricky Gervais is just messing with us. He’s been teasing his talks with the NBC honchos about a third go-around hosting the Golden Globes, and now he’s offered to host the Oscars as well, now that Eddie Murphy has departed the show. He’ll even give a discount, as he joshingly said to an “Access Hollywood” red carpet reporter.
"I'll do that as well. I'll be in town anyway for the Globes," he joked. Not sure if Ricky realizes that the Globes and the Oscars are about six weeks apart, but that didn't kill the joke, as he said he'd give a "two for one offer. I can knock off 20 percent. Two for one deal. I'll just stay up there."
Of course, Gervais was just kidding, but at this point, we should all realize that he’s having a good laugh at our expense, as we wait breathlessly to see if he’s going to host the Globes again. And this is all because he actually told some funny, mildly shocking jokes when he hosted last January. If that was all it took to get attention on the awards circuit, then maybe David Letterman should host the Oscars again. He’s still getting mileage out of his supposedly horrible hosting performance sixteen years ago.
