If there’s one thing that last night’s Women of SNL special underscored, it’s how much Amy Poehler, Tina Fey, and Maya Rudoph are missed on the show.
Loaded with clip packages from episodes through the years, the two-hour special was short on original material with the exception of the opening segment: The Real Women of SNL, a parody of Bravo’s ‘Real Housewives’ franchise hosted by Mr. Housewife himself, Andy Cohen.
It was an expert sketch offering each celebrated former cast-member – namely, Rudolph, Fey, Poehler, Wiig, Molly Shannon, Nora Dunn, Ana Gasteyer, Rachel Dratch, Cherie Oteri, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, and Laraine Newman – a chance to shine.
Does it get any better than Fey as an auto-tuned Danielle Staub and Dratch as a thick-as-thieves "famb-il-ee"-obsessed Caroline Manzo? No! It does not! Take a look below:
Some other highlights: Rudolph as Oprah lording over a crazed audience in the ‘Oprah’s Favorite Things: Birthday Edition’ spoof (which was extra poignant in light of the real Big O’s final season); Poehler’s spot-on Christopher Walken impression; and the Debbie Downer Does Disneyworld bit, in which everyone, including host Lindsay Lohan, breaks character.
