Jimmy Fallon has gotten the nod to host the 62nd Primetime Emmy Awards, airing Sunday, August 29, on NBC.

“Hosting the Emmys has been a dream of mine ever since they told me I was doing it,” says the ‘Late Night‘ funnyman.

John Shaffner, Chairman and CEO for the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, remembers Fallon as having “provided one of the most memorable and talked about moments from last year’s Emmy telecast,” when the ‘SNL’ alum addressed the audience using an autotune voice synthesizer. “He is a bright, insightful and energetic entertainer who made his name performing on live television.”

Adds Emmys executive producer Don Mischer, "Jimmy has many talents. He can sing, he can dance, he does impersonations, and he does it gracefully and with ease. I think he'll make a terrific host."

Recent Emmy hosts include Neil Patrick Harris (2009), a forgettable-if-not-godawful assemblage of reality-TV hosts (2008), ‘American Idol’ frontman Ryan Seacrest (2007) and Conan O’Brien (2006).

In addition to his long run on ‘Saturday Night Live,’ where he helped anchor Weekend Update, Fallon has served as host of the MTV Movie Awards and the MTV Video Music Awards.
