If you need to unlock your Xfinity Mobile phone, so it can be used with another wireless carrier, no problem. In most cases, your phone will be unlocked automatically within up to 48 hours of being paid off.
Here are the other unlock requirements to be aware of:
- At least 60 days must pass since your phone was activated.
- Your Xfinity Mobile account cannot have a past-due balance.
- Your phone cannot be reported lost, stolen, or involved in fraudulent activity.
If you believe you’ve met these requirements, but your phone is still locked, please chat with Xfinity Assistant.
We don’t unlock phones for international travel unless the requirements above are met.
Only the account holder, Primary user, or a Manager on a phone’s original Xfinity Mobile account can request to have it unlocked.
Additional help unlocking your phone
Unlock Apple devices
After you’ve met all requirements to unlock your phone, please visit Apple support for steps to finish unlocking your iPhone.
Note: Apple devices do not require an unlock code. They unlock through updates made when connected to WiFi or cellular data.
Unlock newer Android devices
After you’ve met all requirements to unlock your phone, restart your device; no additional steps are needed to complete the process.
A notification will appear saying: "Carrier lock removed. The device can now be used on any network."
Note: Some may see a notification saying: "Your phone has been unlocked. You can now use it on any compatible network or service provider."
This notification will appear if you are using any of the newer Android devices from 2022 and beyond.
To confirm the unlock status of your device:
- Restart your device.
- Insert a SIM card from another wireless carrier.
- Navigate to the Home screen and look for the "Phone Locked" message.
- Ensure your device is connected to cellular data or WiFi.
- When connected, you will see the unlock message in the notification panel.
Note: If the device is prompting to enter an unlock code, look for the device unlock email instructions sent to the email linked to your Xfinity Mobile account with the code to unlock the device manually.
Unlock older Android devices
After you’ve met all requirements to unlock your phone, an email with the unlock code will be sent to the address listed on file with Xfinity Mobile.
Follow these steps once you receive the unlock code:
- Insert a new SIM card into the device.
- The device will then prompt to have a network unlock code entered.
- Tap the field above the line and enter the unlock code.
- Tap Unlock.
Notes:
- If you enter an incorrect code too many times, an unfreeze code will be required to complete the device unlock.
- For some Android devices, the unlock code may not work on its own.
- If you enter the unlock code and are asked for an unfreeze code, you will need to enter this additional code to move forward with the process.
- The unfreeze code will not be provided in the email but can be provided over the phone from an Xfinity Mobile agent, if necessary.
Tips to unlock Motorola devices
If you see a message on your device saying, “Too many attempts, please try again later,” the phone has had the maximum number of unsuccessful unlock attempts. The device entered a cool-down timeout set for three minutes.
After three minutes, you can request to complete the unlock process with the correct code.
Note: If you restart the phone before the cool-down timeout has expired or after it has expired, the cool-down timeout will be restarted when the phone powers back up. Don't attempt to unlock the phone for another three minutes after the phone has finished powering up.
Unlock your phone if you’re in the military
If you’re an active member of the armed forces, you may be eligible to unlock your phone before it’s fully paid off.
All other requirements above still apply.
To unlock your phone before it’s fully paid off:
- You must either receive orders to deploy outside the U.S. for more than 90 days or receive a permanent change of duty station within the U.S.
- These orders must be received after signing up for Xfinity Mobile service.
